Friday Insights: Virtual Reality technology

Virtual reality technology seems to have lent itself rather seamlessly to the gaming world, but TV producers are now looking at new ways to enhance the TV viewing experience using the same technology. Back in April, Sky announced that David Attenborough will become a hologram to guide users in a new documentary located at the Natural History Museum, and shows such as The Walking Dead are also exploring the idea of a virtual reality experience to run alongside the main programme.

I’m sure we can all remember 3D TVs and how they were going to be the next big thing… and it got us thinking about whether virtual reality technology (VRT) is likely to suffer a similar fate or if it will catch on in a way that 3D technology failed to.
